ヴァナ・ディールという架空のファンタジー世界で冒険者の一人となってバーチャルな生活を楽しむ「FINAL FANTASY XI」。
すでにオンラインRPG の定番タイトルとして知らない人はないビッグタイトルだ。
ただし、サービス開始から2年以上が経過し、なかなか新規にはじめるチャンスが少ないのも確か。
今回のパッケージは、「興味はあるけど、いいタイミングがないなぁ」という人にお勧めだ。
新拡張パック「プロマシアの呪縛」に含まれている新エリアは40以上。

好みの種族からお気に入りの顔と体型を選び、職業を決定したら、まったく新しい冒険人生の始まりだ。

中世を舞台にしたリアルタイム戦略ゲーム『Age of Empires II：エイジ オブ キング』と、

プレイヤーは日本やフランク、スペイン、ケルト、マヤなど18の民族から1つを選び、
町の人々に命令を出しながら文明を成長させ、最終的に世界を征服するというゲーム。
1人で遊ぶという楽しみ方のほかに、ネットワークを介せば同時に複数の人と対戦することも可能だ。
本作では新機能がいくつか追加されているが、その1つが「ターボランダムマップ機能」。
通常の約2?2.5倍の速さでストーリーが進行し、約30分でゲームを楽しむことができるというものだ。
また、上級者のテクニックを参考に戦略研究ができるサンプルデータも追加されている。
まだ『Age of Empires II』で遊んだことがなく、購入後すぐに拡張、改良された状態で遊びたいという人に
オススメのパッケージソフトだ。
インストールCDが2枚になっています。それだけ新規データの量が多いと言う事でしょうか。
「冥府の軍馬」は、今までは3年以上経過したアカウントのキャラクターでしか乗れなかった透明騎乗生物が、
UOを始めて間もない方でも乗れるとても格好いいモノです。
今回新しく導入されたエルフも、髪の毛や皮膚の色のバリエーションや、能力・クエストの多様さまで、
長年UOをしてきた者もブリタニアに降り立ったばかりの頃のワクワクした気持ちを再び思い出すほど、
新鮮で楽しい仕上がりになっています。
しばらくUOをしていなかった方へも、今回のアップグレードは是非お勧めしたいです。
無料のネット対戦が魅力のWIN版ですがライトユーザーへの配慮が全くできていません。 現状ではネット対戦の接続している人がまだ少なく時間帯次第では強い人とばかり当たることもしばしばあります。 レベル別に集まれるロビーもありますがこちらは更に人が少ないので満足にプレイできないことが多いです。 やはり誰と対戦しても互角にプレイできるようにしてほしかったです。同梱されているパッドは非常に使いやすいです。
シングルプレイモード（アドベンチャーモード）は全６章から成り、１?３章は少年王が主人公、
４?６章は少女王が主人公で話が進行します。
このゲームは、戦闘で勝利して、ステータスが上昇していくようなシステムではありません。
ストーリー進行中に会話の選択肢があり、選ぶ会話によって、王の精神的ステータス（KINGとPERSON）に変化が生じ、
その結果、仲間全員のステータスが上昇します。戦闘は、
１．王を含めたリーダーを出陣
２．マップに用意された資源を採掘
３．採掘した資源で、兵舎を建設
４．兵舎で、配下のユニットを増やす、強化する
５．リーダー＋配下ユニットを操作して敵を倒していく
の繰り返しで戦闘を進めていきます。
戦闘はリアルタイムなので、マップの端から端まで目が離せず、緊張感があって良いです。
ただ、忙しさもありました（画面全体の様子を表すミニマップがありますので、少しは安心）。
配下のユニットが障害物にひっかかって目的地まで、到達できないことがあるのが少々残念です。
毎回の戦闘開始前に操作の説明、戦闘をうまく進めるための解説がありますが、コツをつかむまで、
少々時間がかかるかもしれません。結局は戦闘を有利に進めるかどうかは、自分の腕次第です。
セーブは、会話終了、戦闘終了ごとにできますので、何度も挑戦してコツをつかむのも良いと思います。
ゲーム内容が常に進化を続けていくのがオンラインRPGの利点であり、宿命でもある。
